This is undoubtedly going to be a big summer for Liverpool. The Reds are sure to spend big, they kept their wallet hidden away last year and have signed a record kit deal with Nike since. One player Liverpool have been tipped to recruit is Sandro Tonali. However, they could be put off by reports out of Italy.
There are few midfielder more sought after than Sandro Tonali.
The 19-year-old Brescia playmaker has been a mainstay in his side’s starting XI for a couple of years now.
Comparisons have been made to Andrea Pirlo but the youngster himself believes he is more like Gennaro Gattuso.
With four assists in 19 starts in the Italian Serie A this season, he has been impressive in a side that are just a point off the bottom of the table.
Back in 2018 the Brescia chairman slapped a €300m price tag on his wonderkid.
Although that is an optimistic figure, Sky Sports contributor Gianluca DiMarzio has said that the Italian side will kick off an “auction” for the teenager in the summer.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool signing Sandro Tonali could see us replace Xabi Alonso.
Whilst we have obviously moved on from the iconic Spaniard, we have not seen a deep lying playmaker like him since. Tonali could reach that level when he hits his prime.
However, an “auction” would go against The Reds transfer policy of recent seasons.
We haven’t been drawn into bidding wars and we haven’t paid over the odds – we have instead conducted our business quietly and efficiently in a cost effective manner.
Of course, the one exception to this rule is Virgil van Dijk – our pursuit of him was no secret.
If we are as determined to get Tonali as we were to get Van Dijk then we can expect to see the Italian in a Red shirt in the near future.
The question is how much Michael Edwards wants him.
