Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was unhappy to be subbed off on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds beat bitter rivals Manchester United 2-0. However, England international Oxlade-Chamberlain didn’t manage to see out the full 90 minutes.

The 26-year-old reacted furiously to being subbed off and with good reason.

During his 66 minutes on the pitch Oxlade-Chamberlain was impressive, as he often is. He put in a lively, dogged and determined performance in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield. Unfortunately, he was unable to truly put his stamp on the game and it showed in his reaction. The ex-Arsenal man was clearly hoping for more time to shine in England biggest club game. He’ll now face an anxious wait to see if he’s done enough to retain his starting spot for the next game.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s frustration as doubled due to the fact the same thing happened during Liverpool last match. ‘The Ox’ made way just after the hour mark and was replaced again by Adam Lallana. Twice now he has been the man to make way in the biggest games. You can understand why he may take it to heart, as neither game was done and dusted when he made way.

Lastly, and perhaps the most important point to note, is the re-emergence of Fabinho. The Brazilian ended his lengthy spell on the sidelines and made a late appearance against United. Previously he was the leading man in Klopp’s midfield and seems certain to reclaim his spot.

That will potentially mean less football for Oxlade-Chamberlain, hence his reaction after his substitution at Anfield.

He needn’t worry though. Liverpool have more than enough games to keep all of our squad players happy. Oxlade-Chamberlain will be important as we look to compete on three fronts in 2020.
