Today sees Liverpool take on Manchester United in a game as old as the hills. This gargantuan fixture has seen some close fought affairs over the years but this is set to be one of the most one sided editions yet. Liverpool have been given a massive boost as Marcus Rashford has not travelled with the squad.
In midweek United took on Wolves in the FA Cup. The Red Devils scraped to a 1-0 win over The Wanderers.
Despite the win, there was bad news for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Marcus Rashford had to come off just 16 minutes after coming on as a sub.
United’s top scorer was forced off with a back injury, the Norwegian gaffer later admitting it was a gamble to bring him on.
Whilst Paul Scholes was convinced that the English striker would return to fitness in time for the big game, it appears that the 22-year-old hasn’t managed.
The Manchester Evening News have delighted Liverpool as they reported that Marcus Rashford hasn’t travelled with the squad.
According to the MEN, the travelling United squad is:
De Gea, Romero, Grant, Jones, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Williams, Bailly, Maguire, Dalot, Shaw, Lingard, Matic, Fred, Pereira, Gomes, Mata, Chong, James, Martial, Greenwood.
What RTK has to say
This is good and bad news. We were hoping that Solskjaer was going to risk it and start Rashford. He would have been ineffectual coming up against Virgil whilst carrying an injury.
At best he would have been forced off, costing the visitors a sub.
With Rashford not travelling, Ole will have changes to make and he loses a lot of pace in his attack – Juan Mata could come in on the wing with Anthony Martial moving into the middle.
