The Reds are cruising at the top of the league. Jürgen Klopp’s men are 13 points clear with two games in hand over Manchester City. We haven’t lost all season. We haven’t lost in over a year in fact. One stat highlights this invincibility better than most, it also speaks volumes of one defender – Liverpool are unbeaten with Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker together.
These Reds have been utterly unstoppable in the last year. Jürgen Klopp’s side have only tasted defeat once since the start of the 2018/19 season – a cruel loss at Manchester City last January.
That game was as tight as anything. Vincent Kompany should have been sent off early doors for a reckless challenge on Mo Salah – VAR would have certainly intervened had it been in use.
Later in the game John Stones cleared the ball off the line – well, it was 99.9% over the line, we lost the league by that 0.1%.
One important takeaway from this loss is that Joe Gomez was injured, having had his leg broken by the thuggish Ben Mee.
As Alisson Becker only joined the club at the start of last season, this means that Liverpool are unbeaten with Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker together.
With the Englishman looking fighting fit and having missed the second half of last season due to an impact injury – we can rely on him staying fit for the foreseeable future.
Liverpool are on the precipice of going down in history as invincible centurions – the stats are pointing towards at least half of that record being secured.
