The Reds are flying high at the top of the league and look utterly unstoppable. The team are functioning like a well oiled machine, with each cog as vital as the next. With this air of invincibility surrounding Jürgen Klopp’s side it looks as though nobody will be able to get in their way of dominating for seasons to come. Unfortunately there may be a roadblock ahead as the AFCON has been announced for January 2020.
The African Cup of Nations has long been a thorn in the side of European clubs.
The tournament, held every two years for some reason, has historically derailed seasons by robbing teams of their top talents as they enter the home straight of the campaign.
Mercifully, the tournament was held in the summer last time out – as opposed to its traditional winter scheduling.
Sadly for a lot of Premier League sides, the 2020 AFCON has been confirmed for January and February.
Liverpool will lose Sadio Mane, Naby Keita and Mo Salah to the tournament – with the key players missing for around six games domestically. Twitter has been up in arms.
This Kopite is optimistic about the Reds’ chances of coping without their star players, although he is relying on an attacking addition.
Moving AFCON back to January/February is a joke. We’ll cope because we always do so won’t be as damaging as it was in 2017 when we lost Sadio and are likely to bring another forward in anyway but it’s a terrible decision to move it back. Fact it’s every two years is stupid too.

One Liverpool fan was pleading for us to keep Naby Keita from his reckless manager.
Think we shouldn’t allow Keita to go after what their manager did to him😭

A supporter suggested that FIFA intervene to make the tournament less of a problem for club sides.
FIFA need to step in, stop all domestic leagues and allow AFCON to take place. If Copa America, Euros etc are played with a pause in high level domestic league, same should apply for AFCON.

However, we should have Takumi Minamino firing by then.
Don’t forget Minamino, he’ll be ready and firing by then

Maybe even a new name or two.
No sweat, we’ll have Sancho & M’bappe as cover by then
