Report: Liverpool to revisit cut price deal for Ousmane Dembele

There can be no doubt that Liverpool are looking at strengthening their wing positions. The Reds are stretched incredibly thin in the wide areas, with no quality in depth able to give a rest to Sadio Mane and Mo Salah. Sure, Xherdan Shaqiri can step up against the likes of Everton but we need competition, we need that starting berth against Manchester City to be up for grabs. According to reports in Spain, Liverpool may revisit a deal for Ousmane Dembele.

The Reds have been linked with the Frenchman for forever and a day. Barcelona signed Dembele from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 for £135.5m, an outrageous sum in hindsight.

Many Kopites will remember Dembele for fluffing his lines at the Nou Camp – the winger could have put the tie beyond doubt last year when he was through on goal but instead he missed and the Reds went on to overturn the deficit.

According to El Desmarque in Spain (translated by The ECHO) – Liverpool are “keen” on bringing Ousmane Dembele in an £85m deal.

Dembele has managed just three starts in La Liga this season, his future in Catalonia is massively in question – Barca are in financial turmoil and have to sell in order to meet FFP regulations, rumours of his departure may have legs.

What RTK has to say

Nah.

Whilst Ousmane Dembele is clearly talented, we shouldn’t be spending that sort of money on any winger that isn’t banging them in regularly.

We will always trust in the judgement of Michael Edwards and co but this would seem to be a massive gamble spending this kind of money on a player that has failed to establish himself at a side that we humiliated last season.
