The Reds are still top of the league after beating Tottenham 1-0. Liverpool dominated Spurs for most of the game; hogging possession they rarely let their opponents out of their own half for the first 70 minutes or so. The last quarter of an hour was a nervy affair but it was one which Jürgen Klopp’s side survived. Here are our Liverpool player ratings v Spurs:
Goalkeeper – Alisson Becker – 8
Was he even playing for the first hour? He could have been smoking a ciggie in a deck chair throughout the first half but he was at his best after the 70 minute mark.
Right back – Trent Alexander-Arnold – 8
Defensively sound as ever – the Premier League Player of the Month for December was his usual self, stopping the opposition and threading through Mo Salah.
Centre beck – Virgil van Dijk – 8
Martin Keown believes he’s the best the league has ever seen, he showed why today – imperious as ever.
Centre back – Joe Gomez – 8
The Englishman was unlucky to get booked, he is truly immovable from this defence.
Left back – Andy Robertson – 7.5
The Scotsman was faultless, his work rate is something to be marvelled at, as well as his consistency.
Defensive midfield – Jordan Henderson – 8
The skipper was charging about the pitch and dictating play as usual. He has become quite the conductor in Fabinho’s absence.
Centre midfield – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6.5
The Ox was quick with the ball but not as useful with it as he could have been.
Centre midfield – Gini Wijnaldum – 6.5
The Dutchman was his usual self for the most part but a couple of sloppy errors towards the end gifted chances away.
Left wing – Sadio Mane – 8.5
The African player of the year is a nightmare for defenders and showed that again today, he frightened the life out of Japhet Tanganga but to the young lad’s credit he handled him well.
Firmino role – Roberto Firmino – 9
Bobby has been back to his goal scoring best in recent weeks, he kept up his good form today with a smartly taken finish.
Right wing – Mo Salah – 8.5
The Egyptian King was a constant threat, his first touch was sublime, he was incredibly unlucky not to score.
