The January transfer window is in full swing. The Reds have brought in Takumi Minamino and Joe Hardy, they have loaned out Isaac Christie-Davies, Rhian Brewster and Herbie Kane. There are still rumours of more additions to Jürgen Klopp’s squad – according to Turkish newspaper Karadeniz Gazetesi, Liverpool will offer Loris Karius as part of a deal for Ugurcan Cakir of Trabzonspor.
Karius has cut a forgotten figure of late. Without Googling it would be tough to tell you where in the world he is at the minute – is he still on loan in Turkey? Didn’t they try to get rid of him? Did they manage to in the end?
So after some Googling, it turns out Karius is still at Besiktas and they haven’t managed to terminate his loan early but he is still pulling off some comical errors.
We will forever remember the German keeper for throwing the Champions League final in Kiev. The shot stopper made a couple of horrendous errors to essentially hand the trophy to Real Madrid, with Alisson Becker between the sticks it would have been a different game.
There have been a number of reports in recent weeks linking the Reds with a move for Turkey’s hottest new goalkeeping prospect – the latest suggesting that Liverpool will offer €10m plus Loris Karius for Ugurcan Cakir.
What RTK has to say
We aren’t sure about these Cakir rumours, it just doesn’t make sense. Having said that, we’ll get on board if it involves the permanent sale of Loris Karius. We’re sure you’re a nice guy Loris but we should just draw this chapter to a close.
This all remains a bit of a mystery, if we were to sign Cakir it would surely spell the end of Caoimhin Kelleher’s time at Anfield, a move that would be a surprise given that he is supposedly highly rated by the coaching staff at Melwood. Watch this space.
