It is a great time to be a Kopite. Liverpool are 13 points clear of Leicester City at the top of the league, they also have a game in hand – possibly extending the lead to 16 points. Jürgen’s Reds can extend to their 17 points over Manchester City if they win their game in hand. Liverpool have been given a massive title boost as news has emerged that Wilfried Ndidi will be injured for several weeks.
Few people would have expected that the closest challengers to Liverpool this season would be Leicester City. The Foxes have been incredibly impressive this campaign, catapulting them to second in the table, a point ahead of champions Manchester City.
Despite their strong start to the season, Brendan Rodgers’ side fell short on Boxing Day when they were battered at home by Liverpool.
One of the key cogs to the Leicester machine has been Wilfried Ndidi but the Nigerian will be injured for “several weeks” according to Sky Sports’ Gary Taphouse. The journalist Tweeted that Ndidi suffered an injury in training which may need a minor operation.
What RTK has to say
Wilfried Ndidi being injured could be the final nail in the coffin of Leicester City’s brief title challenge. The Foxes were in with a whisper of a chance for a while but a series of bad results in December saw off their title bid.
It does appear as if the stars are aligning for Liverpool. Although, Brendan Rodgers will be thankful that this injury has come at the right time – their January fixtures see them face teams in the bottom half of the division. February is where it gets tricky – the Foxes face Chelsea and Manchester City next month, Liverpool could be out of sight by March.
