The January transfer window is open and the Reds have been busy bees. Liverpool have signed Joe Hardy in the last few days, the latest addition since Takumi Minamino arrived on New Year’s Day. There have certainly been some raised eyebrows in reaction to the move, with the young lad joining from Brentford’s B team.

Hardy is a 21-year-old striker, hailing from the Wirral. It is not often that we get to write about signings that we have played with but funnily enough, this writer is also a wool and went to school with Joe Hardy. Whilst we were a few years apart, he was often asked to join in our after school games and such was his talent he was always the best player on the pitch despite playing with the older kids.

Originally from the Tranmere Rovers academy, Hardy was bought by Manchester City at just 13-years-old. He impressed in Lancashire and was snapped up by Brentford where he scored 40 goals in 80 games for the B team.

Liverpool surprised everybody by signing Joe Hardy, Twitter has reacted to the shock news.

One Kopite suggested that our transfers team have been paying close attention to his stats down in London, with xG once again rearing its head.

Maxi Angelo highlighted some of the high points of the young striker’s record, showcasing his impressive goals to game ratio.

This Red was more than excited about the news, jokingly suggesting that he could be the next Mbappe but insisting that we won’t be missing Bobby Duncan with Hardy around.

Another Kopite was more than impressed with his time at Manchester City.

Respected account Dave OCKop was intrigued by the move.

And of course, some believe that we’re just signing players to take the mick out of Everton now.
