The Reds are going to enter the New Year, the new decade, as Champions of Europe and Champions of the World, leaders of the Premier League. With most of the league playing on New Year’s Day, the Reds have an extra day of rest before taking on Chris Wilder’s surprise package. Here is our predicted Liverpool lineup to take on Sheffield United:
Goalkeeper: Alisson Becker
The Brazilian is creeping up the clean sheet rankings in the league, he has now registered four shutouts, just three shy of Nick Pope, Dean Henderson and Kasper Schmeichel on seven.
Right back: James Milner
With a Merseyside Derby just a few days later, Trent Alexander-Arnold should be rested. James Milner is more than adequate cover.
Centre back: Joe Gomez
JoGo has notched six clean sheets in December, he will be undroppable for the rest of the season.
Centre back: Virgil van Dijk
The Dutchman had some uncharacteristically shaky moments against Wolves but left the match unscathed.
Left back: Andy Robertson
The Scotsman is made of batteries, he doesn’t need a rest.
Defensive midfield: Jordan Henderson
The skipper will likely be in his deeper role for a few more weeks with Fabinho still recovering.
Centre midfield: Naby Keita
The Guinean midfielder was rested against Wolves, coming on in the second half. He will be critical to breaking down a stubborn Sheffield United defence.
Centre midfield: Gini Wijnaldum
The Dutchman has incredibly natural fitness, we can expect him to power through and give us another impressive 90 minutes.
Right wing: Mo Salah
With the Reds still stretched thin, Mo will be asked for one more game.
Striker: Divock Origi
Big Div has proven to be a solid rotation option in recent months, particularly at home.
Left wing: Sadio Mane
The Senegalese forward will be star of the show, one of the most important names in our predicted Liverpool lineup to face Sheffield United.
