Paul Merson says only one team can stop Liverpool invincibles

To those outside of Liverpool, this Premier League season has ended and it is now a case of whether or not The Reds will win it unbeaten or not. In modern history only Arsenal have managed an unbeaten season. Paul Merson has said that Manchester City are the only side that can prevent the Liverpool invincibles.

The Reds are currently 36 games unbeaten in the league, just two shy of a kind-of season unbeaten, Jürgen Klopp’s men can reach that semi-milestone by avoiding defeat when they journey to Tottenham Hotspur in January.

Paul Merson has said that he can’t see anybody beating the Reds on their way to the decisive 49th game (which would equal Arsenal’s invincibles). He told Sky Sports:

“I haven’t heard one person talk about Liverpool getting near the 49 unbeaten of Arsenal. It’s never talked about, it’s odd. You look at it and think: ‘Who is going to beat them? You have to score two or three goals to beat them, and they won’t get beaten by a lesser team! Their 49th game would be against Manchester City at the Etihad. Wow. I think they are the only side that can stop them.”

What RTK has to say

Paul Merson is spot on with his remarks about the potential Liverpool invincibles – at the minute, no side looks capable of stopping the onslaught.

Manchester City likely are the only team that can get in the way of history but even then it could take Liverpool suffering a couple of injuries before the game. If we get to our 49th unbeaten game it will be like a cup final, Klopp has shown he knows how to handle those now.
