VAR yet again took centre stage as the Reds had a disallowed goal overturned and Wolves had a goal disallowed in the first half – both painfully correct decisions. Jürgen Klopp’s side hung on for a 1-0 win but that’s what champions do. Here are our Liverpool player ratings v Wolves:

Goalkeeper: Alisson Becker – 7

Alisson hasn’t had much to do in recent games but his distribution has remained incisive. He was solid when called upon today.

Right back: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6.5

The Scouser in our team defended well at times but was found wanting more often than usual – tired legs?

Centre back: Virgil van Dijk – 6.5

Imperious as ever, it’s hard to fault Big Virg when he gets a clean sheet. We can turn a blind eye, he’s earned that.

Centre back: Joe Gomez – 8

JoGo was superb today, his recovery pace got us out of some sticky situations – he is getting better by the week.

Left back: Andy Robertson – 6.5

Andy Robbo had a quiet game but didn’t put us in any danger.

Defensive midfield: Jordan Henderson – 7

Jord performed his role with aplomb as usual; he hounded the opposition when out of possession and picked out inch perfect passes when on the ball.

Centre midfield: Adam Lallana – 7

Lallana bagged a smart assist in the first half and his work rate was admirable as ever, you cannot fault his desire.

Centre midfield: Gini Wijnaldum – 6.5

The Dutchman was unremarkable but that’s just what we need from him most of the time. He played without fuss but did lose the ball occasionally.

Right wing: Mo Salah – 6

Still a bit off the boil but Mo was threatening throughout.

Striker: Bobby Firmino – 6.5

Bobby was still linking the play with his usual panache but the end product was missing.

Left wing: Sadio Mane – 8

Sadio was deadly in the first half, converting Adam Lallana’s knock down – it was enough in the end.
