Liverpool's three ultimate targets as we head into 2020

Liverpool’s 2020 promises to be a very interesting one as the club targets further domination. Here are their three top targets for the next calendar year.

The Premier League title

The big one that overshadows absolutely everything else. It’s difficult to say exactly what it would mean for Liverpool to finally win it. To many fans it may even have a finale feeling to it – this has been the goal for 30 years now, after all.

Everything at Anfield has been about winning the Premier League for decades. It’s the ultimate goal and, with a double-digit lead, this may be the year the Reds finally do it. Not that anyone will take things for granted, of course.

But it dominates Liverpool’s targets for 2020 – everything else is secondary.

Trophies, Trophies, Trophies

While the Premier League is no. 1, winning everything else is target no. 2. No one is really mentioning it, but Liverpool could win the Treble this season.

No one’s mentioning it because the Premier League will never be taken for granted, though. If this were any other of the ‘big six’ putting in this season, Treble talk would be everywhere.

But you’d almost expect Liverpool to win the league, while they can do the same with the FA Cup if they take it seriously. That just leaves the Champions League – and we know they can win that.

The league takes precedence for ‘personal’ reasons at Liverpool but if they truly want to be at the top of world football long-term, they need to target everything.

The big rebuild

By the start of next season, seven of Liverpool’s first-choice XI will be at least 28 years old. That means it’s time to really think about the future as this group only has a couple more years at the top.

Takumi Minamino is step-one in the rebuild and Jurgen Klopp admitted as much. But Liverpool will need more.

Now, there’s no rush to replace the starting XI, of course, but Liverpool do need a couple more each season. That will be the key this summer with every single target – can they take over from the current lot?
