There has been a million and one players linked with a move to Anfield in January. From superstar Frenchmen to prodigious Brazilians, every man and his dog has been rumoured to be of interest to Michael Edwards. One player now reported to not be heading to Merseyside is Sam McCallum. CoventryLive have reported that Liverpool will drop their interest in McCallum after an improvement in Tony Gallacher’s form.
Earlier this month 90Min reported that Liverpool had beaten off all competition in the race for Sam McCallum. The 19-year-old left back currently plies his trade at Coventry City. According to the report, the Reds had won out ahead of at least 20 sides, including Chelsea and Manchester City.
According to CoventryLive, Neil Critchley gave Tony Gallacher a grade A midseason report, in turn giving Jürgen Klopp encouragement in the player’s development. The Scotsman recently made his debut for the Reds against Aston Villa and has apparently been impressing ever since.
What RTK has to say
This couldn’t be better news. What is the point in signing all these youngsters if we’re just going to replace them with younger youngsters in a couple of years time?
Tony Gallacher improving sufficiently enough to warrant Liverpool turning their back on Sam McCallum not only saves us money but could serve as further motivation for the ex-Falkirk defender.
Whilst this is of course all speculation, if Gallacher really is kicking on then we may hopefully be able to give Andy Robertson some much needed rest heading into the business end of this season.
