The Liverpool recruitment team have been standard setters in recent years. Michael Edwards and co have managed to pull off some real coups, the latest of which is the £7.25m signing of Takumi Minamino from Red Bull Salzburg. The one that doesn’t seem likely is the biggest of them all. Jürgen Klopp has admitted that Kylian Mbappe is “too expensive” for Liverpool.
The Reds have never been in a stronger position in the transfer market. Liverpool posted record profits this year before being crowned champions of Europe and champions of the world.
Despite all the glory and all the money that goes with it, Klopp has only signed Takumi Minamino for the first team and the Japanese attacking midfielder cost a pittance.
Jürgen was asked by Canal+ why he has no French players in his side, he replied:
“There’s no reason for it, there’s no reason for it. Kylian plays for PSG. Griezmann has joined Barcelona. Obviously you know how good your team is. We would like a French player but some of them are too expensive for us.”

Kylian Mbappe is far too expensive for Liverpool, that isn’t a bad thing. We have made a habit of finding value in the market lately. The Frenchman would cost a king’s ransom and that would not be in line with our transfer policy.
We want to buy low and sell high, not buy mega high and unsettle the dressing room by offering astronomical wages. If the Reds were to move for Mbappe it would be a drastic change in direction and not a good one.
