The Reds are stacked with young talent at the minute. We have been building up an arsenal of future greats in recent seasons. According to Football League World, Liverpool could be set to move for Steven Benda – adding yet another highly rated youngster to the Melwood ranks.
Benda is currently on loan at League Two leaders Swindon Town. The 21-year-old is contracted to Swansea City in the Championship.
The German has been incredibly impressive this season, recording five clean sheets in nine starts. Football League World have reported that a source close to Swindon Town has claimed the Reds have been tracking the young shot stopper.
What RTK has to say
If Liverpool sign Steven Benda it would be bad news for Caoimhin Kelleher. How many talented 21-year-old goalkeepers does one team need?
Given how highly thought of Kelleher is at Anfield, it would make little sense to bring in Steven Benda – particularly as it doesn’t look like we’ll be asking our young keepers to make a step up any time soon. Alisson Becker looks set to remain between the sticks for up to a decade.
So what would we do with Benda if we were to bring him in? Well he could be a money making opportunity. In recent seasons the Reds have shown that they can buy low and sell high. We brought Kevin Stewart in on a free before selling him to Hull City for a fee of up to £7.5m.
If we were to buy Benda then we could loan him out, help develop him then flip him for a profit. It’s a cold business but it is crucial to keeping the bank balance healthy.
