In recent seasons we have seen Liverpool enjoying great success in the transfer market. We have bought low and sold high, we have identified diamonds in the rough and we have signed the world’s best. The Reds’ performance in the market has not gone unnoticed, Noel Whelan has described Michael Edwards as “the best in the business”.

After reports emerged of Liverpool agreeing a deal in principle to sign Takumi Minamino for a paltry £7.25m, the football world once again applauded the Reds recruitment team.
One man full of praise for the behind the scenes team at Anfield was ex-Leeds United striker Noel Whelan, he told Football Insider:
“You have to say Michael Edwards is the best in the business. Liverpool’s recruitment has been outstanding in recent years, whether they’re paying big money for Virgil van Dijk and Alisson, a relatively small fee for Andy Robertson or a free like Adrian… I can’t remember a bad deal in years. Which is amazing and rare. Liverpool also kept the the new contracts for Klopp and Milner, and the Minamino deal, all quiet, which takes some doing. They’re sensational deals. Recruitment is absolutely essential for any club, and Liverpool have become the best at it.”
What RTK has to say
We have been singing his praises for a while now so it is warming to see Noel Whelan join the Michael Edwards fan club.
Kopites the world over are enamoured with the work that Edwards has done since becoming sporting director at Liverpool. He has kept our net spend low whilst consistently bringing in world class talents.
Jürgen Klopp has done his part of course, whilst we paid a pittance for Andy Robertson it takes a special coach to transform him from a Hull City defender into a Champions League winning wing back.
