Monday morning saw the draw made for the round of 16 in the Champions League. Some stellar clashes were set up: Manchester City will face Real Madrid, Chelsea will take on Bayern Munich. Most importantly, Liverpool will play Atletico Madrid. The talkSPORT supercomputer has predicted Liverpool will be knocked out by Atletico Madrid.

The first leg will be played at the Wanda Metropolitano on Tuesday the 18th of February. After a long wait the second leg will be played at Anfield on Wednesday the 11th of March.

According to the supercomputer Liverpool will lose out to Atletico Madrid on away goals. The machine predicted a 1-0 win for Jürgen Klopp’s men in Madrid but a 2-1 loss for the Reds at home in the second leg.

What RTK has to say

How accurate the supercomputer is up for debate. However, what we do know is that Liverpool have a track record for upsetting the odds.

Even if we weren’t favourites to qualify from this tie we would never once give up. We have rescued results from desperate situations in the past.

It is interesting that the supercomputer has predicted some low scoring games between Liverpool and Atletico Madrid. Both defences are miserly to say the least, Diego Simeone’s side are adapting to life without Diego Godin.

If the Reds want to progress we will likely have to keep a clean sheet at home. Thankfully for us, the final leg is on Merseyside – going to Anfield for the second leg of a European tie is one of the most difficult fixtures in world football.
