The January transfer window is upon us and with it comes tidings of marquee signings and investments into the future. With the Reds (according to The Independent) already having a deal in principal lined up for the New Year, there is now suggestion that we are set to conclude some more business at the end of December. 90Min have reported that Liverpool have won the race for Coventry City full back Sam McCallum.

The report states that the 19-year-old League One defender has been watched by no less than 20 sides, with Chelsea, Manchester City and Leicester City named as interested parties.
The wonderkid is a graduate of Jamie Vardy’s V9 academy but apparently this was not enough to nudge him towards the King Power Stadium. He has been a stand out performer for Coventry in the Football League this season.
90Min assert that Liverpool have won the race to sign Sam McCallum and will loan the player back for the rest of the season upon completing a deal in January.
What RTK has to say
If this report is true then it is a magnificent signing for the Reds. We are currently lacking depth at full back and there isn’t a stand out youth prospect set to give Andy Robertson a run for his money any time soon. Whilst Yasser Larouci has impressed we cannot forget that he is naturally a winger.
One of the decisive factors in Jürgen Klopp’s men maintaining a presence at the top of the table for years to come is the strength in depth. A key to players performing well is keeping them fully fit and charged, we have seen against Everton and Bournemouth the value in playing with fresh players.
By adding a rotation option for left back we can ensure that Andy Robertson is fighting fit for our most important games of a season.
