Liverpool have impressively earned three consecutive clean sheets over the past seven days.
The Reds shut out Bournemouth, RB Salzburg and Watford to increase our lead in the Premier League and ensure progression in the Champions League.
Before this run Jurgen Klopp’s side had conceded in each of the last 13 games, setting a new club record.
So, are our defensive problems finally fixed heading into the busy Christmas period?

In short, the answer is no. Liverpool still have a few significant problems at the back right now. The Reds despite shutting opponents out have not been able to shut them down. Nigel Pearson’s Watford side had a boat load of chances and against a better side, things could have been much different at Anfield on Saturday. RB Salzburg and Bournemouth also had their moments against the Reds.
However, this is not the reason Liverpool still have some defensive issues. It all comes down to our injury list. Whilst Manchester City fans like too highlight their defensive injuries, Liverpool are facing a much more significant injury crisis at the back.
During pre-season Klopp appeared to have the centre back position locked down with four world class defenders at his disposal. Fast forward a few months the Reds are without Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren. The back line has been chopped and changed throughout the season and Joe Gomez is being relied upon to perform despite suffering an obvious dip in form and confidence.
The true sign of champions is to win when you aren’t playing well. Liverpool have been able to do that whilst consistently shipping goals. Now the Reds are able to shut out our opponents despite the several challenges facing our defensive line. This is just another string to the bow of a team that now looks destined to win the Premier League this season.
