It has been a great week to be a Liverpool fan. With the club offering us festive treats in keeping with the 12 days of Christmas we have seen reports of a move for Takumi Minamino, a new contract for James Milner and an extension to the gaffer’s current deal. When asked about the boss’ extension, Jose Mourinho was full of praise for Jürgen Klopp.
The Metro reported Jose’s comments on Klopp’s new deal, he told the media: “Obviously I think it is great news for the Liverpool fans because they love him, for the players, because it looks clear that they like each other and the relation is very good. And good news for the Premier League because we want to have the best players, the best coaches and he’s one of the best. It is positive news for everyone.”

Mourinho is a funny figure when it comes to Liverpool. He has broken our hearts on more than one occasion but there is an underlying respect there. Over the years the Portuguese has made a number of comments that highlight how positively he thinks of Liverpool as a club.
Before the Champions League final in Madrid we saw Jose and Arsene Wenger spellbound by the Kopites’ rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone. In 2017 he told The Guardian that “it is beautiful” to play at Anfield.
Jose Mourinho clearly has great respect for Jürgen Klopp and the Liverpool fans. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t respect Jose myself. Love him or loathe him he is one of the best manager’s of our time and he is a proper football man.
His comments also serve to highlight the importance of Klopp to other teams in the league. Whilst they must hate coming up against him, the German raises the reputation of the division – as Mourinho said, that is positive for everyone.
