Liverpool host Watford in the weekend’s early kick-off this Saturday afternoon.
The Reds are currently flying in the Premier League and pretty much every other competition we are in.
Watford on the other hand are rooted to the bottom of the table and have announced Nigel Pearson as their new manager.
Despite this they have players capable of causing an upset this weekend. The Reds must guard against complacency or these three players in particular could create problems.
The 36-year-old has a long career of highlight reel saves in his rear-view mirror. However, he is still a top-level goalkeeper capable of frustrating even the best teams. Watford although bottom of the table have actually kept more Premier League clean sheets than Liverpool. On four occasions Foster has been able to shut out the opposition. In comparison the Reds have just three clean sheets in the league so far. The stat is true testament to a ‘keeper who has been a consistent Premier League performer over the past decade.
Ex-Everton and Barcelona man Gerard Deulofeu is the visitors best player. On his day he is truly world-class and capable of playing in any team in Europe. Unfortunately his day doesn’t come around too often. So far this season he has just two goals to his name but he is capable of turning it on at any point. Liverpool’s defenders will need to shut him down and quickly. As any weakness he sees could increase his confidence and take his game to another level.
Liverpool fans have bad memories of Watford striker Andre Gray. Back in his Burnley days he scored both goals as Sean Dyche’s men beat the Reds 2-0 at Turf Moore nack in 2016. Despite playing second fiddle to Watford captain Troy Deeney, he seems to be their most potent goal threat. Like Deulofeu he has just two goals to his season but that stat is impressive considering they are performing so badly and a lot of his appearances have come from the bench.
