Dejan Lovren injury update is a relief for Kopites

This weekend was a joyous one for Kopites. The Reds battered Bournemouth 3-0, Alisson Becker kept a clean sheet and Manchester City dropped even further out of the title race as they lost at home to Manchester United. There was one sour note as Liverpool were forced into an early change at Dean Court. Thankfully, the Dejan Lovren injury update makes for reassuring reading.

Jürgen Klopp was forced to withdraw our stand in centre back after 40 minutes. Trent Alexander-Arnold was brought on and Joe Gomez was shifted into the centre of defence.

Speaking to the press after the game, the boss offered and update on the Croatian’s fitness – The Sport Review reported his comments:

“Always you don’t know exactly but it looks not too serious, it looks like a little cramp. He felt something, he told us, said he for sure could go to half-time, wanted to have treatment there and carry on, but we said no and stopped it there. It is similar to what Gini and Adam Lallana had – not serious but serious enough to keep them out. Now we have two days to make sure they can go again. That’s what I think at the moment but I don’t know 100 per cent.”

What RTK has to say

The Dejan Lovren injury update is positive as we head into the manic December period. With Joel Matip already absent, the last thing we need is to be down yet another centre back.

It is unlikely that Lovren will be risked against Red Bull Salzburg in midweek. With a lot of games to play this month, it would be foolhardy to rush the defender back into action. This could be the perfect opportunity for Joe Gomez to reclaim his place in the side.
