There were a couple of firsts to celebrate after Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth. The Reds kept their first clean sheet in 14 games when they battered the Cherries – a stat that could prove crucial if it is maintained. Perhaps more exciting for Kopites, Curtis Jones made his league debut against Bournemouth at the weekend. The Scouser’s substitute appearance could be a positive sign for the future.

The local lad has already made a number of first team appearances under Jürgen Klopp – starting cup matches and friendlies in the past. Jones even collected the Man of the Match award when the Reds beat MK Dons in the EFL Cup in September.
With the squad set to be rotated heavily throughout December, Curtis Jones making his debut as a substitute could be an indication that he will be getting a lot more game time in the next six weeks or so.
Jones undeniably has the ability to step up in the near future, he is composed on the ball and deadly going forward. The question has always been: when is the ideal time? It seems as though the ideal time is now.
Previously, the Reds have been in strong form but were not winning emphatically enough to allow the boss to bring on our youth prospects.
Now, with so many games to play and the Reds beginning to blow teams away again – we may see Curtis Jones follow up his debut as a regular feature in the first team during the winter.
His ascent may have come sooner than we imagined but this can only be positive news going forward. To have another talented and trusted midfielder at our disposal could prove crucial to the title race.
