Liverpool thrashed Everton 5-2 in the Merseyside derby last night.
The win continued our fine start to the season in which we have picked up 14 wins from 15 games.
On top of that, Jurgen Klopp side set a new club record against the Blues. The Reds are now unbeaten in 32 league games which is the best run in club history. By setting such a record, this question simply must be asked:
Is this the best Liverpool side of all-time?
Jurgen Klopp’s side certainly has a case to be considered our best ever side. The Reds have looked sensational under the German manager especially over the past year. Most notably Liverpool have become European Champions again in 2019. After going so close in 2018, the Reds bounced back in emphatic fashion to claim a sixth European Cup.
Liverpool cemented ourselves as the best team in Europe by winning the UEFA Super Cup just a few months later. These performances earned our players recognition on the World stage. Seven Liverpool players earned Ballon d’Or nominations and four Reds made it into the top 10.
On top of that Klopp’s side earned an incredible points haul in the Premier League last season. However, the 97 points acquired wasn’t enough to end our 30-year wait for a league title. And it is that failure is what separates this team from others throughout our history.
Liverpool’s are a club that has been blessed with great teams. Unfortunately for Klopp and co they don’t yet have the trophies to support them being our best ever side. The Reds teams of the 1970’s and 80’s brought a ton of silverware back to Anfield, something Klopp’s team are just beginning to replicate.
Until they reach the levels of their predecessors, this current side cannot be considered the greatest no matter what the records say. However should this Klopp era continue for the next few years it’ll become difficult not call this Reds side the best ever.
