Liverpool join Manchester United and Arsenal in race for Ricky-Jade Jones

Another day, another next-best-thing. The next-next-best-thing is a 17-year-old Peterborough United forward. According to The Daily Mail, Liverpool have joined a host of clubs tracking Ricky-Jade Jones.

The report states that Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton and Burnley have all been watching the electric attacker. Allegedly, Spurs have had a bid of £2m rejected by The Posh.

Jones has already scored for the first team, netting in cup games against Cambridge United and Stevenage. To be banging in goals for the first team at such a young age, at such a physical level is incredibly impressive. The wonderkid made his league debut against Burton Albion on Saturday.

What RTK has to say

Liverpool being linked with Ricky-Jade Jones is no surprise. If there is a young talent catching the eye of Premier League sides then somebody is inevitably going to throw the Reds into the mix.

He is certainly an exciting prospect and he has received great backing from his manager – Darren Ferguson claimed he is the quickest player he has ever coached.

The issue with the Reds chasing the youngster is that he has garnered the interest of a huge number of clubs. This would mean a bidding war for the young lad.

Bidding wars haven’t been the MO for Michael Edwards and co in recent times. We have instead conducted our business surreptitiously and efficiently. We don’t overpay and we certainly aren’t drawn into auctions.

Whether or not Liverpool will sign Ricky-Jade Jones remains to be seen, the only thing we can be certain of is that the Anfield transfers team will make the right decision, they’ve not put a foot wrong in the market in a while.
