Last season was the most hardly fought title race in Premier League history. Liverpool and Manchester City slugged it out on the way to a spectacular finish to the season. The Reds finished second on 97 points, just a point behind City despite losing just once all season. One of the decisive moments in the title race was Vincent Kompany’s long range winner at The Etihad. Jürgen Klopp has joked that he was “really angry” with Leicester City.

At the FWA Awards in Manchester, the Liverpool and Man City bosses both collected individual gongs. The pair gave entertaining speeches and the German took the opportunity to tell a story from the 2018/19 campaign.
The boss described how he was growing excited watching The Foxes at The Etihad, impressed with their stoicism. However they then grew tired and Klopp became “really angry” with Leicester City. The rest is history.
What RTK has to say
How often is that going to happen? The title on the line, the centre back steps up to break the deadlock with a thunderbolt in to the top corner. At least the gaffer has a sense of humour about it. The Foxes are a very different prospect this season and are the Reds closest title rivals as it stands, currently in second place – eight points behind the leaders.
On such things are titles won and lost. This season the Reds are further ahead a lot sooner. With nine points between the two teams before the hectic winter period that can really separate the wheat from the chaff, we hopefully won’t give them an opportunity to score a wonder goal to break our hearts. Vinny Kompany isn’t around, fingers crossed.
