Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has urged his former side to forget about the Carabao Cup.
The Reds face a hellish fixture schedule next month that includes playing two games on two continents within 24 hours.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Carragher said. “The Aston Villa game in the Carabao Cup? If Liverpool get through, they will have two semi-finals to play then and that cannot get in the way of Liverpool winning the league.
“What I mean by that is do not play anyone in your first XI in that Carabao Cup team. Not one.”
Carragher is approaching Liverpool’s title charge from a pessimistic view. This is understandable after all he has been front and centre as the Reds have experienced a few near misses over the years.
However, the Liverpool legend clearly underestimates the strength of our squad. Jurgen Klopp has group of players capable of competing on all fronts this season.
The Reds are yet to win a domestic cup under the German and that should be put right as soon as possible.
If anything needs to be disregarded it’s our trip to the Club World Cup. Despite presenting the chance at history it really doesn’t offer much else.
Liverpool are expected to take a 15-hour flight to Doha and risk our best players against lesser competition. All for the sake of a trophy we are expected to win, and no-one cares about.
Despite what Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says we should field a strong team against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup.
