The Liverpool transfer policy of late has been mainly geared towards finding diamonds in the rough. The Reds have demonstrated an ability for buying players at a snip and turning them into world beaters. With Corriere dello Sport reporting that Liverpool are tracking Amine Harit of Schalke, could Michael Edwards be set to repeat the trick?
According to the Italian outlet, the Reds are monitoring the progress of the Moroccan midfielder who has managed to get his career back on track after being involved in a fatal car crash last year.
Fans of FIFA20 will be well aware of the talents of Harit as he was awarded the game’s Bundesliga Player of the Month award thanks to his impressive performances.
The attacking midfielder has amassed an impressive five goals and two assists in 11 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, contributing to his side’s strong form. Although Schalke find themselves seventh in the league, they are just two points off second place.
What RTK has to say
Ever since the departure of Philippe Coutinho, the Reds have been looking for a magic spark in midfield. Although Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has proven of late that he still has the goalscoring knack – we are still missing the dribbling and slide rule passing ability of Coutinho. If Liverpool are indeed tracking Amine Harit then we could be going someway to plugging the gap that the Brazilian left.
The Reds pursuit of Harit is undoubtedly aided by the special relationship between Jürgen Klopp and Schalke boss David Wagner. The pair played together at Mainz and coached together at Dortmund.
The benefit of the gaffers’ relationship is multifaceted. We would get a headstart on any competition for the player’s signature, Klopp can get insight into Harit’s personality, strengths and weaknesses, and we would be buying a player that is accustomed to the playing style of our manager.
If he continues his red hot form, Liverpool signing Amine Harit could be a strong move.
