It was not quite a “come and get me” plea but it was not far off. Reported Liverpool target Sander Berge has described playing at Anfield as a “dream”, adding fuel to the fire of a potential move to Merseyside. Goal were the latest to report the Reds’ interest.
Genk’s lanky defensive midfielder has been impressive in both of his side’s performances against Liverpool this season. Standing at 6 foot 5 inches tall, he cuts an imposing figure on the pitch – with the right coaching he’d be able to intercept just about anything.
The 21-year-old has been ever present for his side in the Champions League this campaign, not missing a minute of continental action.
Speaking to TV2 in Norway, Sander Berge said: “Playing at Anfield is a dream for everyone in the world, and not least for Norwegians, Liverpool are the best team [at the moment] and have the most fans. I could certainly like to play at Anfield as often as possible.”
What RTK has to say
The way that Sander Berge talks about Anfield is incredibly telling. The lad is there if we want him.
As the midfielder pointed out, Norwegians have a special affinity towards Liverpool and this would definitely play to our advantage in any forthcoming transfer battle.
With his own sporting director confirming Jürgen Klopp’s interest, it is only a matter of time before these rumours begin to gather pace. He fits the bill for Liverpool: he is young, malleable and would come at a relative snip. Could Fabinho soon have an understudy?
