Back in September we suggested that it would not be the end of the world if Liverpool sold Mo Salah and replaced him with two of football’s brightest talents. Reports in Spanish outlet El Desmarque this week have asserted that the Reds are set to do just that. The publication have reported that Liverpool will sign Kylian Mbappe and sell Mo Salah.

El Desmarque have said that the Reds are set to break the bank with a world record £215m offer for the Frenchman. If Liverpool sign Mbappe he would allegedly earn a staggering €40m a year, more than Lionel Messi.

However, the report believes that the move hinges on Mo Salah moving to Real Madrid. The Spanish media assert that the Egyptian King has a ‘bad relationship’ with Jürgen Klopp, and Zinedine Zidane is willing to capitalise on the ill feeling if he cannot secure his number one target: Mbappe.

What RTK has to say

This is definitely a mixed bag. Selling Mo Salah is not a disaster if Liverpool sign Mbappe. Whilst many Kopites believe that we should never have to sell our top talents, it would be mawkish to suggest that we should pass up on the man tipped to take up the mantle from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Where the report becomes fishy is the numbers. Michael Edwards and the rest of the Reds transfers team have proven shrewd operators in the market – it is unlikely we would be willing to spend over £200m on any player, it is even more unlikely that we could completely overhaul our wage structure with such an astronomical salary.
