Tuesday night saw Liverpool run out comfortable winners over Genk at Anfield. The Reds dominated the game throughout, the 2-1 scoreline flattered the visitors. An early strike from Gini Wijnaldum was followed by an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain goal after 53 minutes, the two efforts were interrupted by a Genk equaliser just before half time.

Wijnaldum’s goal came after smart work from Divock Origi gave James Milner room to cross. Milly’s ball in pinged off two Genk defenders before a deft touch from Gini turned the ball into the roof of the net.

Genk equalised when a momentary lapse in concentration gifted the visitors a corner that was nodded in at the near post by Mbwana Samatta.

The Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain goal restored the Reds lead shortly after half time. Some clever touches from Mo Salah got the ball to The Ox before the England midfielder pivoted and fired low past the helpless keeper. It was his third in two games against the Belgians.

A draw between Napoli and Red Bull Salzburg left Liverpool top of group E at the end of the evening, if the Reds beat Napoli after the international break they will secure qualification to the knockout stages.

One Red believed that the strike should earn him a place in the first XI, hoping he provide the spark we’ve been missing.

Another Kopite was delighted to see The Ox back to his best.

This supporter was quick to point out that the Liverpool midfielder has now notched more goals than Eden Hazard in the competition.

There were more calls for him to start, one fan even urging Jürgen Klopp to give him the nod against Man City on Sunday.

And of course, fans were just over the moon with the technique on display.
