The Liverpool midfield is stacked with talent. At the moment though, there is a distinct lack of creative flair. The Reds approach play has been one dimensional for most of the season, this could be attributed to the slow and steady returns of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Reports have surfaced in Inside Futbol this week suggesting that Liverpool will bid for Denis Zakaria but they face stiff competition from Arsenal and Man United.
Zakaria currently plies his trade in the Borussia Monchengladbach midfield. The Swiss international is a dynamic holding midfielder of a similar mould to Fabinho but with more emphasis on his creative output. Whilst Fabinho has consistently demonstrated that he has a penchant for clipped balls into the box and passes sprayed out to full backs, his main talent is defending. Zakaria is the reverse in that whilst he can defend, his main talent is through passes.
According to Inside Futbol both Arsenal and Man United are looking to beat Liverpool to the Bundesliga midfielder’s signature. This isn’t something for Jürgen Klopp to worry about. Both Arsenal and United are in complete disarray at the minute and dont seem an enticing prospect for any young footballer. Further to that, Klopp has a revered reputation in German football and any player in the Bundesliga offered a chance to work with him would likely take it.
Inside Futbol believe the Liverpool bid for Denis Zakaria would have to reach the €50m mark. With the player only 22 years of age and the Michael Edwards having a reputation for haggling, Zakaria could be a steal. He would allow us to play with a double pivot, perfectly complimenting Fabinho and giving attacking license to the likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
