World class Fabinho performance lacked vital yellow card

Sunday saw one of the finest midfield performances that Anfield has been treated to in a while. Fabinho has been steadily asserting himself as the undisputed best defensive midfielder in the world. The Brazilian had another fine game as the Reds turned over Spurs 2-1 to maintain their six point lead at the top of the table. Despite his world class display, there was one thing that the Fabinho performance lacked: a yellow card.

Throughout the game on Sunday Fabinho was crucial to every aspect of Liverpool’s play. The defensive midfielder refused to ever let the visitors get a foothold in the game. No matter what they tried, Spurs simply couldn’t get past Fabinho and they found themselves pegged back into their own third for a majority of the game as a result.

Fabby’s passing was a joy to behold against Tottenham. Playing as a regista he conducted the Reds attacking play, chipping balls in behind the Spurs backline as well as spraying passes out to the full backs. It was the complete defensive midfield display.

As it stands, Fabinho has four yellow cards in the Premier League, this means that after his next caution he will pick up a one game suspension. Liverpool’s next game is against Arsenal in the league cup, Fabby isn’t likely to play. This weekend we face Aston Villa, if Fabinho picks up a yellow card against the Villains then he will miss Liverpool’s home tie with Manchester City.

Kopites everywhere were praying that Fabinho would pick up a yellow card against Spurs in order to reset his tally before the City game, only missing a league cup tie he is likely to be rested for anyway. It was nearly a perfect performance from Fabinho, it just lacked a yellow card.
