Liverpool battered Spurs at Anfield on Sunday. The Reds were on top throughout the game but, due to a goal for Harry Kane after 47 seconds, the visitors were able to dig in. After going a goal up, Tottenham parked the bus. Jürgen Klopp’s side bombarded the Lilywhites goal but were constantly denied. Paulo Gazzaniga saved Spurs from humiliation against Liverpool.
Early in the game Liverpool went behind after Heung Son Min’s shot was deflected onto the post by Dejan Lovren, Spurs striker Harry Kane nodded in a smart header from close range. After going a goal ahead, Mauricio Pochettino’s side dug in. The visitors sat deep and compact against the Champions of Europe, in the first half this approached paid off, thanks to one man: the goalkeeper.
On a number of occasions, Paulo Gazzaniga pulled off impressive saves, saving Spurs from humiliation against Liverpool. In the first half there was a smart double save after a curler from Mo Salah was palmed out to Bobby Firmino, the Brazilian fired in only to see his own shot saved.
The ball fell to Trent Alexander-Arnold, 25 yards out, he fired the ball as hard as possible, as straight as possible and it was destined for the top corner – Gazzaniga stopped it. In the second half, Roberto Firmino headed into the bottom corner – Gazzaniga stopped it. Again and again.
The Spurs keeper was immense today and had a strong claim for man of the match. Without Gazzaniga, Spurs could have been humiliated by Liverpool.
