Liverpool are a terrifying team to come up against, especially in a big game. The Reds are known for their intense, aggressive pressing that doesn’t give their opposition time to breathe. When making the move from abroad into the Premier League, facing Liverpool for the first time can be quite a shock – as Dani Ceballos found out. Man City signing Rodri has highlighted how Liverpool challenge their opposition.
Man City signed Rodri from Atletico Madrid over the summer for £62.8m. The midfielder arrived as a long term replacement for the ageing Fernandinho. He is calm on the ball with a good passing range and great defensive intelligence. The Spaniard has impressed with early performances for the champions but he is well aware of the task that his side faces as they seek to retain the Premier League title.
As reported by The Mail Online, Rodri has highlighted the Liverpool challenge, the midfielder said “I have touched down in England, and immediately found myself up against one of the best teams I have seen in recent years…They are strong. And not just on the counter-attack. They can dominate games and they can score from set-plays”. The step up in standard between La Liga and the Premier League is evident, the English league boasts the champions of Europe after all.
Liverpool’s style of play has terrified the former Atletico man, he continued “they go at you like animals and that is what prevails in football right now…One comes at you, then another and sometimes it seems like there is no escape. It’s a quality they have, that is clear”. With City feeling the effects of Klopp’s style of play, if the Reds can maintain their intensity, they should be able to come through their two fixtures with their rivals unscathed which will be vital come the end of the season.
