Liverpool had their quietest summer in recent memory this year. The Reds signed just 4 players during the transfer window, with no arrivals to improve the first team. Jürgen Klopp has been linked with just about every top talent in Europe since winning the Champions League, one such player is Donyell Malen with Inside Football the latest to report Liverpool’s interest. Tutto Mercato this week reported that Juventus and Roma were scouting the young striker over the international break. With potential competition incoming from a pair of Italian giants, should Liverpool bid for Donyell Malen?

Malen is just 20 years old and currently plays his football for PSV Eindhoven. The Dutchman is the latest ex-Arsenal youth star to have the Gooners kicking themselves. Serge Gnabry has blossomed into a world beating winger and Alex Iwobi is finally starting to realise his potential at Everton. Malen recently made headlines when he scored each of his side’s 5 goals in a 5-0 demolition of Vitesse.
The striker has netted 10 goals in 9 Eredivisie appearances so far this season, as well as 3 in 2 Europa League games. WhoScored list his two biggest strengths as finishing and passing. To play in this Liverpool side’s attack you need to be able to take your chances but you also need to be able to create opportunities for your teammates, it seems as though the young Dutch international would fit right in at Anfield.
According to a report in The Mirror, PSV value the player at £50m. Whilst this is certainly a lot of money, the player is a proven goalscorer and yet to reach his full potential, he could provide the depth that Jürgen Klopp needs in attack. Liverpool should bid for Donyell Malen if they have the opportunity.
