With superstar misfiring, Liverpool should give 24-year-old more starts

It is easy to forget that Divock Origi is just 24 years old. He seems to have been around Anfield for an age. Liverpool signed the Belgian forward back in 2014 and he has had a rollercoaster career with the Reds since. Despite never being a first choice for Liverpool, he has etched himself into Anfield folklore and will be a hero of the Kop for decades to come. The Belgian deserves more game time than he is getting and with Mo Salah currently falling short of his own very lofty standards, now is the ideal time for Liverpool to give Divock Origi more starts.

Although his stats are flattering, Salah has had a juddering start to the season, he had 3 of his worst games in a Liverpool shirt prior to bagging against Red Bull Salzburg. An ineffectual display against Napoli was the low point for Salah’s recent form. He put in a decent performance against Leicester in the following game but is still looking a shadow of the player we know he is. The Egyptian king is in dire need of a rest to recharge, clear his head and return to form.

Divock Origi is the ideal candidate to step into Salah’s shoes. The Belgian has only started twice in the league this season, he scored against Norwich but limped off against Newcastle. He has proven himself to be a big game player and with Liverpool competing on all fronts this season, every game is a big game. Origi notched a last gasp winner against Newcastle last season, an injury time winner against Everton, the final goal in Madrid and the winner against Barcelona in the Champions League semi final.

The former Lille man is a natural goalscorer, he just needs time on the pitch to flourish. Give Divock Origi more starts and he will come on leaps and bounds, Salah will recover his form too.
