This season promises to be one of the most hotly contested title races since, well, last season. The league was decided by just 1 point last campaign, with Manchester City pipping Liverpool to the trophy with 98 points. This season’s honours could boil down to which team can keep their best players fittest for longest as there seems to be very little to separate the two sides when they are both fit and firing. Currently Man City are down to the bare bones defensively as Aymeric Laporte is out until the New Year with injury. Pep Guardiola has another headache incoming as he faces a spell without Kevin De Bruyne and may also be hit with a Bernardo Silva ban.
The Citizen’s world beating playmaker, De Bruyne is currently out with injury and is a doubt for the weekend. The Belgian missed Tuesday night’s routine victory over Dinamo Zagreb. De Bruyne is pivotal to the way Man City play, he has been in terrific form of late with his vision and passing ability picking apart helpless defences – the latest victims being Everton.
Bernardo Silva is integral to Guardiola’s system. The versatile midfielder is a magical combination of tenacity, flair and technique. The Portuguese star is a frightening midfielder to come up against as he doesn’t give his opposition a moment’s rest. He is currently facing a 6 game suspension after he was charged by the FA in relation to his tweet to teammate Benjamin Mendy. A report by The Guardian states that the FA are charging him with an aggravated breach of their rules, bringing the game into disrepute.
With the two midfielder’s set to miss key games, can Liverpool capitalise on the De Bruyne injury and the Bernardo Silva ban?
