Why Liverpool should delay Alisson's return

Liverpool should continue to hold off on reintroducing Alisson Becker to first-team football.

The 26-year-old has been sidelined since suffering a calf injury on the opening day of the season. Medical staff are now holding back his return to full training, showing caution in dealing with this injury

Despite Alisson’s obvious importance to this Liverpool team, they should be in no rush to bring him back into the fold.

An early season goal-keeping crisis struck Anfield on the opening day of the Premier League campaign.

Adrian signed for the club to help manage that crisis. And since his arrival the Spanish shot stopper has proved to be an able deputy in the Liverpool goal

The 32-year-old ex-West Ham player has been so good that Alisson’s absence has not been the catastrophe once feared.

Behind Adrian we have an emerging talent in Caoimhin Kelleher. The Irish youth prospect made his senior debut in the Carabao Cup victory at MK Dons.

The 20-year-old was more than capable, keeping a clean sheet and making a world-class save to earn it.

Liverpool have two solid back-ups in Adrian and Kelleher, and they will ensure the Reds don’t need to rush Alisson back sooner than advised.

Liverpool should play this one safe and put faith in our squad depth to ensure the Brazilian doesn’t suffer a repeat injury in a critical part of the campaign.
