Record signing returns: Predicted Liverpool team to face Salzburg

The Reds face a tough test on Wednesday night as they welcome Austrian league leaders, Red Bull Salzburg. Jesse Marsch’s side have won 8 and drawn 1 in their opening 9 games. They are an intensely attacking, free scoring team with vulnerabilities at the back – remind you of a team you used to know? This is our predicted Liverpool team to face Salzburg.

Goalkeeper – Adrian

Alisson rejoined first team training on Sunday but Wednesday night could be too soon for his return.

Right back – Trent Alexander-Arnold

The Scouser is in solid form and will be looking to exploit the space left by Salzburg’s high press.

Centre back – Joel Matip

Matip has made himself undroppable in recent weeks and his eye for a ball could be key to a counter attack.

Centre back – Virgil van Dijk

Who else? The Dutchman will be looking to keep teen sensation Erling Håland quiet.

Left back – Andy Robertson

Hot on the heels of a terrific display against Sheffield United, the Scotsman will be knackered by the end of this one.

Defensive midfield – Fabinho

One of the first names on the team sheet, Fabinho will be looking to snuff out the Salzburg counter before it starts.

Centre midfield – Jordan Henderson

He rarely misses European games, the captain will have to be at his barking best to keep the Reds organised

Centre midfield – Naby Keita

One can only hope that Keita’s absence against Sheffield was with one eye on the Champions League, we will need his flair to spark a lacklustre midfield.

Left wing – Sadio Mane

The Senegalese winger will be relishing the counter attacking opportunities likely to present themselves.

Right wing – Mo Salah

Egyptian king Mo Salah will be looking to recover his form after a few poor games.

Striker – Roberto Firmino

Hopefully the Brazilian will be a class above the Austrians, he is likely to show them just how high the standard is in the Champions League.
