King Kenny anoints next Liverpool manager after Klopp departure

He is both a Sir and a King, Kenny Dalglish. Liverpool’s legendary number 7, hailed by many as the best player the club has ever had. He even has a stand named after him. The Reds icon has made a bold statement this week, he has weighed in on the speculation surrounding Jürgen Klopp’s rumoured departure at the end of his contract. Dalglish wrote in the Sunday Post  that he believes Steven Gerrard to be the logical choice to be the next Liverpool manager.

King Kenny discusses a quote from Jürgen Klopp, one in which the German gaffer tips Steven Gerrard to be the next Liverpool manager when he finally gives up the position. Dalglish wrote “It’s a hypothetical scenario, but one that I can see the sense in”. These comments will be music to Gerrard’s ears. To be tipped for his dream job by two of Liverpool’s most influential figures must be heartwarming praise indeed.

Liverpool’s talismanic former captain – Steven Gerrard that is, not the Scottish one – has long been thought of by the fans as a future gaffer of the side. His heart on the sleeve attitude whilst captaining the club through its most turbulent times in history endeared him to the Kop forever. Daglish is well aware that Stevie will be the fan’s choice, writing “I’m sure Jurgen is only echoing the thoughts of most of the club’s supporters.”

Personally, I wouldn’t want Steven Gerrard as Liverpool manager. This is not because I don’t love him, it is not because I don’t think he would do a good job. It is because I am terrified of him doing a poor job. We don’t want Stevie joining a list of players that have tarnished their legacy at a club with a poor management spell, just ask Alan Shearer or Graeme Souness.
