Liverpool Chief Executive Peter Moore says the Anfield club have returned to the top of English football.
The 64-year-old was appointed by FSG in 2017 and has oversaw Liverpool during a period in which we picked up a sixth European Cup.
Speaking at the World Football Summit, he said. “We are back on our perch, as we famously say.
“What the Fenway Sports Group have done at Liverpool over the past nine years is nothing short of miraculous.”
Upon his arrival at Old Trafford in 1986, Alex Ferguson famously said his job was to “knock Liverpool right off their perch.” He did just that, ushering in a period of Manchester United dominance.
Peter Moore’s comments come slightly ahead of schedule to say the least. While Liverpool have looked sensational in recent years, they certainly haven’t returned to the top of English football.
The Reds will reclaim our perch one day soon, but in order to do that we need to end the 30-year league title drought. Manchester United have fallen from but their mantle has been taken up by rivals Manchester City.
Back-to-back Premier League titles and a domestic treble last season has them safely secured at the top of English Football.
Liverpool are destined to end the title wait sooner rather than later. Peter Moore’s comments will ultimately ring true.
