We have been watching the 18 year-old’s career for the past few weeks, reporting on his progress. He has been making quite a name for himself in the Liverpool’s youth team, especially with his ability to look dangerous on the counter-attack.
It speaks volumes of his talent if Klopp chose him to be in the starting line-up against MK Dons. It is the first real test of his career- to prove to Liverpool fans and the manager why he belongs in the team.
Compared to some of the senior players today, Jones has proven that he does.
The youth player has impressed fans today. His partnership with Elliott was a particular highlight of the game, with the two youngsters fast feet making it hard for the opposition to settle. The scouser was also great at finding space on the pitch, creating many opportunities for his teammates whenever he got the chance.
The 18 year-old’s talent was so exceptional tonight that he was awarded the Man of the Match.
Possible chances of future appearances?
After tonight’s game, Jones should be starting ahead of many of the senior players. The Liverpool U23 regular had a much stronger impact on the field than Lallana and Keita. He ran all over the pitch, made plays and slotted right in with the first team style. I hate to say it, but Jones could usurp Lallana’s role in the team.
Klopp should take advantage of Jones’ driven determination and energy as it will come in handy in future games.
