Jurgen Klopp wants Steven Gerrard to succeed him at Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp believes club legend Steven Gerrard should be the next man in the Anfield dugout.

Speaking to FourFourTwo he said. “If Liverpool were to sack me tomorrow, then maybe Kenny (Dalglish) would be the first choice to replace me, but they would probably bring Stevie down from Glasgow.

“If you ask who should follow me, I’d say Stevie. I help him whenever I can.”

Klopp is contracted to the club until June 2022. According to reports the German wants to take a sabbatical from Football once his current Liverpool contract ends. The boss has added weight to the reports by offering up his potential replacement.

Gerrard makes up a one-man list of potential Klopp replacements in my opinion.

The Liverpool legend is currently spearheading the revival of Rangers in the Scottish Premier League and has done a great job so far in his first job in management.

Raphinha, Coutinho and Tielemans: The signings Liverpool could make this summer

All the leadership qualities Gerrard possesses have allowed the former Reds midfielder to transfer seamlessly into a coaching role.

When the Scouser does eventually take the top job at Liverpool, he will unite the fans who will be determined to see him succeed. He would also be given time, support and a great squad to work with.

Gerrard will be a great Liverpool manager one day, but hopefully not anytime soon. Klopp is one of Liverpool’s all-time great managers and our main priority should be retaining the German for as long as possible.

With his current deal set to expire in just three years we must now persuade him to extend his stay on Merseyside.
