Roberto Firmino scored a towering header that proved to be the difference as Liverpool ran out 2-1 winners against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The Brazilian has now scored against all of Liverpool’s big six rivals as he continues to prove he is the man for the big occasion.
After yesterday’s exploits, Firmino now has 17 goals against the supposed big six clubs in England.
The 27-year-old’s impressive tally has come through one goal against both Chelsea and Manchester United, two versus Tottenham, five against Manchester City and eight at Arsenal.
This is simply the latest stat that finally has world football taking notice of one of the most underrated talents. With 51 Premier League goals he is the most prolific Brazilian to ever play in England.
The numbers finally show what Liverpool fans have always known. Firmino is more than just a play-maker who works hard; he is a genuine goal threat who shows up when it matters most.
Yesterday’s winner was the talisman’s third goal of this Premier League season in which he has also provided three assists.
Since joining the club in 2015, Firmino has hit double figures every season in the league. Perhaps now is the time he pushes on to become a 20-goal a season striker.
With plenty of big occasions ahead for Liverpool, he will have the opportunity to do just that.
