Liverpool see best and worst of VAR

Liverpool have experienced the best and worst VAR has to offer this week.

The Reds faced Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, before heading to London to face Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday. Both games had huge game defining moments that were subject to the scrutiny of the Video Assistant Referee.

During Sunday’s 2-1 victory at Chelsea the Reds found themselves benefiting from the use of VAR at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta had looked to have levelled things up, only to have his goal chalked off on review. And rightly so. The Blues midfielder Mason Mount was offside in the build up to the goal and he would have gone unnoticed without some help.

After a week dominated by VAR drama, Liverpool fans will understandably have mixed opinions on the effectiveness of the newly introduced technology.

Whatever your opinion, VAR is here to stay. Let us just hope Liverpool have more calls like yesterday than the one we suffered during the midweek trip to Napoli.
