Chelsea have been forced to rely on youth this season. A transfer ban hamstrung them during the summer window. Frank Lampard has looked toward academy products and former loan farm members this campaign. The forced experiment has paid off thus far with Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount all impressing for the Blues this term. On Tuesday night Chelsea were given a fright when a horror tackle from Francis Coquelin forced Mount off with an ankle injury. The Stamford Bridge side are poised to host Liverpool this Sunday and ahead of the huge fixture, Frank Lampard has provided a Mason Mount injury update that will worry Reds fans.
When asked during his pre match press conference whether or not the England midfielder would feature at all this weekend, Frank Lampard responded “he has a chance”. The press conference was streamed live on Chelsea’s official club site. Mount has been crucial to the attacking prowess of the Blues this year. He had to step into some very big shoes, filling the gap left by Eden Hazard’s move to Real Madrid.
The Chelsea gaffer also took the time to update the press on the status of N’Golo Kante. The Frenchman missed preseason but played against Liverpool in the Super Cup, Lampard described his involvement in Chelsea’s defeat in Istanbul as “miraculous”. The tenacious midfielder could start this weekend, the Blues manager said that with the former Leicester man back in training it is time to “manage him” as he looks to return to the first XI.
