Loris Karius is a name that is going to haunt Kopites for decades to come. We’ve got nothing against him personally – he just can’t help the constant errors. The German keeper tattooed his name in infamy when Liverpool played Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev. Although he had some fine games in a Liverpool shirt and is an instinctively sound shot stopper, his errors will forever shroud our memory of his time on Merseyside. We just witnessed another Karius error.
We moved Loris Karius out on loan to Besiktas on the 25th of August 2018. The two year loan moved promised to be an opportunity to rebuild his confidence and reputation after a harrowing and potentially career defining night in Madrid. He managed to concede 39 goals in 30 games in his first Turkish Super Lig season, earning just 6 clean sheets in the last campaign. Alisson on the other hand reached 21 clean sheets in his debut Liverpool season, playing all 38 league games.
Unfortunately, the German has been at it again in the Europa League. On Thursday night, there was another Karius error. With his team away to Slovan Bratislava and the scores level, the goalie rushed out to head away a long ball, he completely mistimed his leap. The ball bounced too high for a helpless Karius, it grazed the top of his head before the keeper fell to the ground, bringing his defender down with him and allowing the onrushing striker a tap in.
With these loan moves you want to be proved wrong, you want to see them find form and come back ready to compete (or with a greater transfer value), it looks as though Liverpool have been proved exactly right in the Karius matter.
